Last Saturday, late in the afternoon, I went to CVS to buy a variety of items.  There were about five people working in the pharmacy section, but only one young lady working the floor.  She had to open cabinets to fetch items that people needed behind plexiglass panels.  She was also the cashier.  A long line was forming at the counter, but she helped me get items from locked shelves in opposite ends of the store.  She asked me very sweetly, “Do you need anything else?” 

“No,” I said, then later remembered that I did need something else, from the very cabinet she had earlier opened for me!  But there was no way I was going to say anything, because she needed to wait on the customers who were ready to pay.

Eventually, I paid for my items and left thinking what a wonderful lady the clerk was.  She had so much to do, and everyone was watching her as she worked.  But she showed no sign of exasperation or frustration.  She was a shining light in dark times.  In a world where everything in stores has to be locked up, she was an open book of calmness and love.  She made a difference in my harried day.
