Scholars have wondered why the 16th century European was able to dominate the planet. Great discoveries had been made by people throughout the world and throughout time, but something gave the Europeans technological and political superiority.
Rodney Stark gave the solution in his book, “The Victory of Reason.” Western Europe had embraced Christianity, a faith based on reason. It believed in a logical God whose creation could be dependable. Thus, the scientific method was developed, stating that we can observe nature and predict nature’s working based on our observations. This changed everything.
All the great scientists of Western Europe were Christians, and their Christianity guided their thinking and paved the way for technology.
Sunday I’m preaching on “Learn about the World” from Daniel 1:1-17. We’ll look at “Learn in Order to Serve,” verses 1-7; and “Learn to Do What’s Right,” verses 8-17. The passage is about Daniel and his three friends being taken into exile in a pagan land, learning from the best schools in the world, and profoundly impacting eternity. Please come and learn with us!
We’re having the Lord’s Supper, something Christ commanded us to do, so please obey him and attend this Sunday!

FALL/WINTER WEDNESDAY NIGHT DINNER SIGN-UPS
We need help with our Wednesday Night Dinner for the fall/winter. By volunteering for at least one Wednesday night, we can ensure no one is doing all the work. You would be putting together and leading a team for one or more times this fall/winter.
This entails shopping (the church will pay the bill; see Betty Allen for the budget), preparing a meal for about 60-70 children and adults, and clean up. Betty Allen will meet with you to help you understand the commitment.
