LEARN TO GROW BEYOND GRIEF

August 17, 2025

C.S. Lewis was an atheist.  He was also a professor at Oxford and Cambridge.  He eventually came to believe in God, then he became a devout Christian.  He wrote more than 30 books which have been translated into more than 30 languages and have sold millions of copies.  His children’s series, “The Chronicles of Narnia” have been popularly adapted to the stage, movies, television and radio.  In 1956 he married the American poet Joy Davidman.  She died in 1960 of cancer.  It devastated him.

As he recovered, he wrote the autobiographical, “A Grief Observed.”  He stated that his wife’s death knocked him “silly” in order that he might come to his senses.  He wrote, “Only under torture” might a man “discover himself.”

Sunday I’m preaching on “Learn to Grow beyond Grief” from Job 42:1-13.  We’ll look at “Turn Your Eyes toward God,” verses 1-6; “Pray for Others,” verses 7-9; and “Anticipate Blessings,” verses 10-13.  We’ll learn from the grief of Job to grow in our relationship with God and others.  Please come and grow with us!

Love,

Jim Meek

FALL/WINTER WEDNESDAY NIGHT DINNER SIGN-UPS

We need help with our Wednesday Night Dinner for the fall/winter. By volunteering for at least one Wednesday night, we can ensure no one is doing all the work. You would be putting together and leading a team for one or more times this fall/winter.

This entails shopping (the church will pay the bill; see Betty Allen for the budget), preparing a meal for about 60-70 children and adults, and clean up. Betty Allen will meet with you to help you understand the commitment.

If you can help, please click here or use the QR code below.

If you have questions contact Betty Allen or call the church at 916-488-1522 or email us at office@elcaminobaptist.org.

Let’s all share in this valuable and encouraging ministry and fellowship.

5:15 - 6 pm in the Fellowship Hall.
Suggested donation $5 per Adult and child/youth over 10 years of age / $2 per child under 10

Kristen Wakefielf and team will prepare our meal for us
