BLESS THE NEXT GENERATION
We can be a blessing or a curse to the next generation.
Famous, handsome actor, Ryan O’Neal married famous, beautiful actress Farrah Fawcett. Their son, Redmond O’Neal, is in court on multiple charges, including attempted murder, having stabbed two people. He has horrifying tattoos on his face including devil’s horns on the upper part of his head.
Famous actor and director, Rob Reiner, had a son, Nick Reiner, who suffers from drug addiction. He entered his parents’ Brentwood home and stabbed them to death.
Both sets of parents had a genuine love for their sons. But none of them seem to have had Jesus in their hearts. Without Jesus, it is difficult to truly bless the next generation.
Sunday I’m preaching on “Bless the Next Generation” from 1 Kings 2:1-12. We’ll talk about “Pass the Faith to the Next Generation,” verses 1-4; and “Encourage the Next Generation to Be Wise,” verses 5-12. This is about King David, close to death, blessing his son Solomon.
Our hearts break when we read about celebrities who seem to have everything going for them, raising children who are a curse to them and society.
As Christians, we seem to have everything going for us; things such as the Holy Spirit and eternal life. Nevertheless, we must be vigilant to pass blessings on to the next generation, whether it’s our children, grandchildren, or the children of our church, neighborhood and nation. Please come to Sunday School and worship and help us bless the next generation.
