SHARE THE RESURRECTION

Henry Ackley played the cello brilliantly. He became a pastor of churches in Elmhurst and Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania (where my wife was born!) and Escondido, California. He wrote 1500 songs! One day he was witnessing to a young Jew who responded, “Why should I worship a dead Jew?” This inspired Ackley to write the famous hymn, “He Lives.” The first line reads:
I serve a risen Savior, he’s in the world today;
I know that he is living, whatever men may say;
I see his hand of mercy, I hear his voice of cheer,
And just the time I need him, he’s always near.
He lives, he lives, Christ Jesus lives today!
He walks with me and talks with me along life’s narrow way.
He lives, he lives, salvation to impart.
You ask me how I know he lives, he lives within my heart.
We also know he lives because an empty grave speaks eloquently of his resurrection. His disciples didn’t steal his body because many of them gave their lives with the conviction that he had conquered death. His enemies didn’t steal his body because they would’ve paraded it through the streets to disprove claims of his resurrection. The resurrected Lord changed peoples’ lives, and continues to change lives today. He changes my life every day!
Sunday I’m preaching on “Share the Resurrection” from John 20:1-18. We’ll talk about “Believe in the Resurrection,” verses 1-10; and “Share Your Testimony,” verses 11-18. Christ’s resurrection doesn’t just mean we can have eternal life by giving our lives to him. It also means we can live resurrection lives every day; living through the power of his Holy Spirit. Please invite as man people as you can to celebrate with us Christ’s resurrection. We’ll have special treats between Sunday School and worship and we’ll have a photo booth in case you want to take Easter pictures.
