Welcome

SHARE THE GIFT OF BEAUTY

December 7, 2025

George Washington Carver never knew his father or mother.  His father had been a slave who had died in a farming accident.  His mother was kidnapped and sold by raiders during the Civil War.  After the war George stayed at the farm of the people who had owned him.  He came to Christ at the age of 10 while shelling corn in their big barn.

George loved wandering through the woods, especially admiring the beauty of wildflowers.  He also immersed himself in Scripture.  He added to these blessings by getting the best education available to a bright, young Black man in those days after the Civil War.

In time George revolutionized Southern agriculture, teaching people how to save depleted soil, broken communities and deprived lives.  In some ways he saved the depleted South.

When asked how he overcame bitterness over his past he simply said,

When you get in touch with the great creative power you just cannot get bitter because there is so much beauty in the world that you can’t waste your time getting bitter.

Sunday I’m preaching on “Share the Gift of Beauty” from Isaiah 52:7-15.  We’ll talk about “Be Beautiful by Bringing Good News,” verses 7-10; “Be Beautiful by Being Clean,” verses 11-12; and “Be Beautiful by Understanding,” verses 13-15.  Like George Washington Carver, let’s learn to get past all bitterness, and be a channel through which God can bless others with his beauty.

December 12-14, 6:30-8:30, is our Live Nativity.  Please get involved, invite people and come, experience the beauty of the Christmas Story. It’s our Christmas Card to the community.  Let’s share this gift of beauty!

Love,

Jim Meek
